Icing on the Cake and Connecting to the Elements

Beyond the foundations of breathing, hydration, sleep, mind and spirit, nutrition and exercise, there are some other avenues to fine tune our health. Let's call it Icing on the Cake, other things you can consider adding into the mix of healing if needing recovery and on to optimum vitality. To start out, there has been a lot of conversation around cold water immersion. The man who has single handedly brought this to the attention of people globally is Wim Hof. 



The Ice Man


At the top of this list of many podcasts is Wim Hof, referred to as The Ice Man, because of his seemingly superhuman feats of endurance in cold for his own health benefit. He is also known for his teaching of breathing techniques that provide incredible resistance to cold, and sickness, and he has rather created a movement of understanding and practice in the world of breathing technique, for immunity, strength and vitality. Self-described as a crazy man, and yet, what he does is backed by science, and he is far from crazy. He is a gift for all of us. 

Here is Wim Hof, himself, in a conversation with Rich Roll, going through Wim's story, covering the art of his breathing techniques, as well as his other amazing accomplishments, particularly cold-water immersion. With this, you will have a better understanding of what Wim Hof is all about, and he will definitely expand your awareness of what our human bodies are capable of. This conversation actually goes way beyond just breathing, and there are many empowering words of wisdom to take in from this self-described crazy man.

On the other side of cold immersion is sauna. For a look into the health benefits, here is a conversation between podcast host Lex Fridman and Andrew Huberman, Ph.D.. Andrew is a neuroscientist and tenured professor in the department of neurobiology, and by courtesy, psychiatry, and behavioral sciences at Stanford School of Medicine. He has made numerous significant contributions to the fields of brain development, brain function and neural plasticity, which is the ability of our nervous system to rewire and learn new behaviors, skills, and cognitive functioning.
